Discretion cited as key component of new service initiated in Las Vegas.

“While some attorneys have long specialized in making embarrassments for high-profile clients ‘go away,’ they often only handle cases for Americans.  Because much of the Consular Chamber’s membership is foreign…they might not be as familiar with how the court system works.”  –  Tim O’Reilly, Las Vegas Business Press

~COMPLETE STORY:  LAS VEGAS BUSINESS PRESS~

Consular Chamber of Commerce launches multi-platform global identity verification service.

Identify.nu has launched its Facebook Identity Badge, further expanding its portfolio of correspondent online services.  The system now interfaces to provide global identity verification service for users of Facebook, Google Gmail, Yahoo, MySpace, AOL, OpenID and more.

Identify.nu verified members have provided passport identification, in person, to a consular officer who is a verified consul member of the Consular Chamber of Commerce.  The verifying consul certifies and legalizes a copy of the member’s passport, and uploads the legalized copy to Identify.nu dedicated, secure servers in Denmark.

Consuls are exclusively contracted to perform this duty because they are vetted by both a sending and a receiving country, and have powers to legalize documents on behalf of a country, or obtain a Hague Apostille for multi-national legalization.

Consuls who upload Identify.nu passports do so in performance of consular duties, using a server dedicated to consular use only, under the protections of the Vienna Conventions on Consular Relations.  The result is the most comprehensive international privacy protocol, including exemption from search and seizure.

The Identify.nu social networking interface enables members to display verification that a given email address or user profile does in fact belong to the member identified by the consular officer.  The result is believed to set a new standard in connecting a social networking profile or email address with a natural person.

Outside the social networking world, Identify.nu acts as the secure exchange for verified, legalized passport copies, especially among members of the Consular Chamber of Commerce, which includes the identify.nu service in its membership.  Passport copies are required by banking standards worldwide for various transactions.  They are also required in many finance, shipping, trade and partnership endeavors, not to mention travel related use.  The ability to reliably and securely provide one’s legalized passport copy directly to the secure login of business associates  anywhere in the world is unprecedented and valuable.

To Fulfill the demand for the verification and legalization of passports copies, the Consular Chamber of Commerce compensates Honorary Consuls on an ongoing basis for each confirmation request or renewal.  The Chamber pays each consul US$10. to US$20. for each passport reviewed by the consul, and for doing the same when a passport is renewed or changed.  The Consular Chamber of Commerce recognizes only the passport as suitable identification for the identify.nu system.  Consuls can enroll to become confirmed, verifying consuls at www.consul.cc.

Honorary consuls who verify passports in urban centers may see substantial increases in volume and fee income.  The Chamber hopes to see honorary consulates become more substantial in their communities, particularly in the developing world.
